Encoder Cables

Encoder Cable

Cables that connect rotary encoder signals to a machine control system, VSD or display to provide position or speed feedback, need specific characteristics. These characteristics include noise shielding with braided screening and twisted pairs to cancel out induced noise signals caused by electrical interference in industrial settings.

Encoder cables also need to have a low capacitance and an appropriate impedance to ensure that the signal is received effectively over longer cable runs.

In many industrial applications, encoder cables are used in installations that cause constant movement and bending in the cable repetitively and over sustained periods of time. Examples of these applications include CNC machines, robotics, lathes, cutting and milling machines, and overhead cranes. For these moving axis applications, the encoder cables must be energy chain rated, and often called power chains.

If this sounds like your project requirement, contact ADM to get your energy chain rated cable specifically made for encoders.

FLEX-08CORE-TP Encoder Cable

Our FLEX-08CORE-TP encoder cables are exceptionally durable and flexible, made to tolerate various industrial conditions. This encoder cord has eight twisted cores inside that are wrapped with Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) outer sheath, which makes it resistant to abrasion, most types of chemicals, and harsh weather conditions.

Features of FLEX-08CORE-TP Encoder Cable

  • Shield info: braid of tinned copper wires, coverage = 85%
  • Conductor size: 0.18mm2
  • Outer Diameter: 6.4mm (about 0.25 in)
  • Multi-core Twisted Pair Cable (4x2x0.18)
  • Rated for energy chain

Flex-08Core-TP encoders are readily available and can be delivered with reduced wait times. Contact ADM if you have any questions or require technical assistance.
