The Avtron XR45 is a hazardous-duty hollow shaft encoder that is well suited to severe drilling and industrial situations where vibration, shock, dust, and liquids would quickly destroy a traditional optical encoder since it is based on Avtron's robust magnetic sensing technology rather than delicate optics. It is rated for both gas and dust hazardous environments, including cULus Class I Division 1 & 2 and ATEX/IECEx Zones 1, 2, 21 & 22. For Division 1/Zone 1 installations, it pairs with the XRB3 isolator to enable intrinsically safe wiring in place of explosion-proof conduit or glands. It is a popular direct replacement for Baumer/Hölner EEx HOG-series encoders because the SMARTSafe electronics are shielded from short circuits and wiring errors, and the hollow-shaft installation removes the flange adapters and "flowerpots" frequently required with rival designs.
